Nutritional Information
Food
“Food safety, quality and consistency of our food is very important to us no matter where our customers are served, whether locally or overseas. To ensure our customers’ wellbeing, we maintain the highest quality through training, safety checks, and attention to detail, as well as rigorously sourcing for the best, most appropriate ingredients for the items on our menu. In recent times, Ya Kun has been working closely with food scientists and government initiatives to propose additional options in our menu. For customers who wish to know more about the nutritional value of their orders, we provide nutritional panels as part of the Health Promotion Board Siew Dai Initiative. From our Telok Ayer days until now, our kaya has been made using a secret family recipe passed down through three generations. Under the close supervision of family members, it is manufactured in Singapore, and the process is ISO certified, with no added preservatives, artificial flavouring, or artificial colouring.”
Hospitality
Since the very beginning when Loi Ah Koon would provide newspapers to customers, as well as meals for those who could not afford, our shops have been a place of friendship and family. Based on our tagline that toast can bind kinship friendship and partnership, We have loved seeing our regulars enjoy their meals and helping new customers experience Ya Kun for the first time. We believe our customers are our guests, and we want each one to feel heartily welcome through the smiles of our staff and the comfort of our food. Ever since our company’s inception, we have been committed to the policy that if any of our customers are not happy with their food, we are happy to exchange it for them, no questions asked.
Green Initiative
Our teams have been working to integrate green initiatives into our heritage business model. To begin with, our outlets use energy-saving appliances as much as possible. In addition, the items on our menu are made to order, thus reducing our overall food wastage. We are also exploring opportunities to work with ground-up initiatives for the waste management of coffee grounds, tea leaves, and eggshells. One such opportunity has been to donate our eggshells to a school community garden in support of their green project.
We are currently in collaboration with a local company to use coffee grounds to make dine-in utensils.
Community Engagement
With every outlet we open, we hope to deepen our engagement with the surrounding community. One such example is the Shoebox Project, where we have opened our outlets as collection points for the community to drop off presents for the benefit of children from low income families. We also engage students from local and international school through school talks, as well as by hosting them on site visits. On our Cherish app, we partner with our customers to support a variety of projects. When we partnered with Boys Town, our customers used their points to fund residential services, such as transport to tuition and cost of meals. Our customers can also use their points to donate to World Vision, which, in turn, sponsors various programs for the benefit of children in need around the world. In the past, we have worked together with our customers to donate to a reading program for children in slums in the Philippines and Sri Lanka. Currently, we are contributing to the improvement of water and sanitation facilities at a primary school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.”
Franchising:
Singapore to be refined, dating back as early as 2003. Today, we operate on a mixture of corporate and franchise stores in order to provide a good balance between the franchise model and our strong corporate foundation.
